Treclin Gel (clindamycin, tretinoin) is used to treat moderate to severe acne. Containing both clindamycin, an antibiotic effective against the bacteria associated with acne, and tretinoin, a vitamin A derivative that promotes rapid cell division, this product is more effective than clindamycin alone.

While an effective acne treatment, the inclusion of tretinoin in this product means patients should not buy Treclin Gel for use on mucous membranes, such as the vagina.

In treating acne this product can be used in patients aged 12 years old and up.

How To Use Treclin Gel

Treclin Gel is effective in moderate to severe acne, treating the bacteria associated with acne while also promoting rapid cell division to produce healthy, youthful looking skin. It is also thought that the tretinoin in Treclin Gel prevents cells along hair follicles from clumping together, further reducing pimples.

This medication is very simple to use:

• Clean and dry the affected area (usually the face).
• Apply a pea-size drop of Treclin Gel to a fingertip.
• Gently rub the medication into the face (or other affected area).
• Wash hands thoroughly when done.

While some patients notice improvements within days of starting use, the majority will need to wait several weeks. Acne may even worsen for the first month, after which time it begins to clear up. Treatment typically lasts 8 to 12 weeks. It may continue beyond 12 weeks, but this is rare and should be done only with doctor instruction; it is more likely alternative products will be tried. There are many other options available.

It may be tempting to use this product in greater quantity or more frequently than recommended. Be aware that there is little benefit to be had in doing so, while uncomfortable and unsightly skin irritation is likely.

Treclin Gel may cause mild burning, stinging, or itching when it's first applied. This is normal and not cause for concern unless severe or persistant. Severe burning, stinging, itching, rash, blisters, peeling skin, redness, and so forth are not normal; if experienced, stop use and speak with a doctor.

Some patients should not buy Treclin Gel at all; avoid this product if there is a history of:

• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Colitis caused by antibiotic use
• Skin cancer
• Rosacea

• Using products that dry the skin
• Using products that contain alcohol, spices, or lime
• Using products that contain erythromycin, metronidazole, aminoglycosides, other antibiotics or corticosteroids
• There is a history of atopic eczema
• Taking blood thinners

The tretinoin in Treclin Gel is known to cause serious birth defects if used while pregnant, particularly in the first trimester. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not buy Treclin Gel, and should wait at least one month after treatment ends before trying to conceive.
